Be All You Can Be

Back when I was a teenager, it was common to hear positive words like “You can be anything you want to be”, “The world is your oyster” and “Set your mind to it and you can do it”. If was kinda cool to hear that and be encouraged to proceed with your dreams. In fact, we were encouraged to do anything we wanted to do, even if there was really no perceivable way that it would happen. The succeeding and failing efforts were applauded.
Seems all good, right.
Some backlash from this type of thought has been that people have chased every dream that came across their path and cannot focus on…purpose. Focusing on a purpose, goal or calling, even if it is not the right one, can at least serve as a guiding light. If you have a purpose, calling or plan for your life, it can be tweaked. It is not set in stone. And failure not only WILL happen, it SHOULD. We learn from failure and revel in successes.
It is ok to realize that you are not going to be Michael Jordan, Bill Gates and Anthony Robbins all rolled up into one package. It is ok to realize that you cannot. It is also freeing to know this. Knowing your boundaries contributes to focus. The slogan from the Army does not say “Be All You Wanna Be” for a reason. Head towards your purpose, learn from your failures, rejoice in your successes and hone your skills.
Realize what you can be
